How to Have a New Bedroom Without Changing Furniture

Here is a some good ideas to re-decorate your bedroom.

The bedroom is, after all, one of the most important rooms is your home.  It is where you relax, reconnect and recharge.

So if your bedroom starts to look a bit... outdated, cluttered or uncomfortable, this article may interest you.

Find some pictures that inspire you. Check my Pins for inspiration or find your own in magazines or on the net.

Once you have decided what you like, go ahead and... empty the room.

Leave the furniture, the mattress, the headboard and the bedside tables.

Remove lamps, pictures, curtains and any other furniture that you don't like any more (or don't know why it was there in the first place.)

Now you can see the room.

What colour inspires serenity in you?

My recommendation is to choose neutrals, greens and blues but we are talking about the most personal room in the house so the choice is all yours.

If your furniture is dark, light colours on the walls and textiles will create a more spacious and brighter room.

Only bring back those things that you need, or are beautiful to you and in accordance with your ;original plan. Remember, some of those beautiful items can also be beautiful elsewhere in the house. Do not clutter the bedroom.

Adding details that reflect light such as crystal will bring a touch of luxury to the space. Something as simple as a glass jar (from the kitchen) with a fresh flower can create that effect.

A plain, or not too busy, natural rug will add the comfort factor to your bedroom.

Do you enjoy reading at night? make sure you have the proper lighting available (approx. 500 lux.) but dress it up for a bedroom not an office. The idea is to relax.

Don't be afraid of mixing styles. If your bed and bedside tables are of a particular style but you would like a new look, go ahead and add that lamp that you love although it's in a totally different style. It will make the room more interesting and personal.

Co-ordinate the textiles to bring the warmth and personal touch. Try to choose natural materials. A mohair or cashmere blanket in winter, or a cotton one in summer lying informally on the bed together with beautiful cushions will add the final touch to your brand "new" bedroom.

Please let me know how it worked out for you. I would love to hear your comments.

  1. Dear Eva.
I am looking for some bedside tables, which can hold some books and not look messy. I would like them to be smart and as part of the design of my bedroom. They can not be larger than H = 55 cm and W=40 cm and would like them to be either White or oak Wood, but are open for alternatives if you have a good idea. Do you have some suggestions?
